Akimi Yoshida was born in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. She began her career as a manga artist in 1977 with her one-shot story, Chotto Fushigi na Geshukunin, published in Bessatsu Shoujo Comic magazine. Yoshida is most recognized for her crime thriller manga series, Banana Fish.
