Masao Maruyama was born in Shiogama, Miyagi, Japan. In 1959, he joined Mushi Productions, where he began his career in the anime industry. In 1972, Maruyama co-founded Studio Madhouse with renowned anime creators Osamu Dezaki, Rintaro, and Yoshiaki Kawajiri. Throughout his career, he worked on various anime projects, contributing to the success of many popular series.
